Our Mission
We are building communities centered around 2 orphanages, centered around Christ’s love.
There’s a saying, “some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts, leaving us forever changed.” Nyayo is a nonprofit seeking to provide immediate care and a future of hope for the children of Fort-Portal and Jinja area who changed our hearts. We plan to do this by:
Providing immediate financial stability to allow these people to think about other things rather than simply survival. Our hope is that this promotes deeper relationships with each other and Christ.
Providing financial resources to kick start projects that promote independent operation of each homes and build up the local community.
We saw a need and wanted to practice our Christianity. This is the scripture that has inspired our mission.
“But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?” - 1 John 3:17
We are rich, we have access to wealth, we see these people in need, and are convicted to open our hearts to them to share God’s love in deed and truth.
“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” - Galatians 6:10
We know we have been given this special opportunity to help share in providing the necessary resources to raise these children. We want to share that opportunity with others who so feel inclined to join us.
“We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
Our motivation stems from a desire to share the love that we have been given.
“In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability.” 2 Corinthians 8:2-3:
Betty and Silas look like the Macedonians that are described in this passage. I still remember thinking “I can’t believe people actually live like this”.
