MAY NEWSLETTER

One scripture that we wanted to share with you this month is Ecclesiastes 4:9-10: “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.” It’s a honor to serve with each one of you as we continue to grow Nyayo into a remarkable life changing institution to our children in Uganda. Thanks for the support and continued  prayers. Our team member Gordon returned this month from his trip in Uganda, bringing with him exciting news about the future. Keep reading to find out what we’re talking about but we’re taking steps this month towards sustainability!

Monthly Reminders

Our founders continue to connect with each other each Monday via virtual bible studies to continue to learn about God and Jesus, who ultimately have inspired our mission. We are always happy to have new faces join us and love to pray for each other! If you would like to join us or would ever simply have a prayer, just reach out via our email under our Contact Us page or you can call/txt at 540-454-0237.

What’s New
A week ago, our leaders had a zoom meeting and discussed Gordon’s recent trip to Uganda and our next phase as an organization. As you know, one of Nyayo’s pillars is focused on sustainability and establishing projects at both children’s homes that will help bring about an independent operation.

One of the major activities Gordon accomplished while in Uganda in April was to start identifying and going into great detail of various projects that will take us toward our goals. He presented a laundry list of sustainable project ideas as well as other items for future consideration at our last tagup. We have listed all of the projects below (even though this list will most likely change), simply to give you insight into what we see as we see it. There is a lot more detail behind each of these bullets that we are currently working on cleaning up before we share.

Sustainability Projects:

  • Cattle Herd

  • Piggery

  • Vocational School

  • Maize Mill Project

  • Farm-to-Table Restaurant

Improved Operations:

  • Vehicle for local transportation

  • Office equipment

Like I said earlier, we are actually funding two of these projects this month! As we reported before, we’ve been saving $9,000 that one of our regular donors generously gave 2 months ago. We knew this was a special amount and have been praying for guidance on how to expend it. With continued prayer, and Gordon’s list of project ideas, we recently had peace with being led to expend the funds on the cattle herd and piggery project. Below provides details on the description of each project, how we envision it affecting the long term state of the orphanages, the cost, and finally the rationale we used to make our decision. We are excited because with these projects we see that we are already taking steps toward the eventual end of Nyayo! As we kick off our first two projects, we ask that you to keep us and our Ugandan team in your prayers as we move forward.
